Academic Accommodation Guidelines
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
- Students are responsible for sharing their AAP and discussing approved accommodations with their instructor(s).
- Student accommodations are not retroactive and only apply after the AAP has been shared.
- Students are strongly encouraged to meet privately with their instructor(s) to discuss how accommodations will be implemented and to clarify which accommodations they plan to use.
- This document is essential for your current classes and any future semesters/terms until its expiration date, indicated in the upper right-hand corner of the plan.
INSTRUCTOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Upon receiving the student's AAP, approved accommodations must provide in a timely manner, maintain confidentiality, and foster an open and respectful environment.
- Instructors should not deny, delay or modify any approved accommodation without first consulting DSPS. If an accommodation may fundamentally alter course objectives or technical standards, instructors must contact DSPS promptly to initiate the fundamental alteration review process in accordance with Title 5§56027.
- Additional information is available on the Rights and Responsibilities page on the DSPS website.
SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accommodation implementation is a shared responsibility between students and instructors.
- Timely emails, one-on-one meetings and check-ins throughout the semester help ensure accommodations are provided smoothly.
- Accommodation discussions should occur privately.
- If a concern arises, students and instructors are responsible for reaching out to DSPS for support and guidance as soon as possible.
- Follow the Learning Center guidelines for adapted testing protocols for faculty. For questions regarding testing accommodations, please contact the Testing Center at (626) 914-85705, testingcenter@citruscollege.edu or ED 113.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
- Students may email their AAP at any time but should do so at least one week before using an accommodation. Best practice is to email instructors at the beginning of the semester to avoid delays or missed access.
- Supports listed under ARRANGED BY STUDENT are approved for on-campus use but are not ADA accommodations and are not located, coordinated or funded by Citrus College. Students are fully responsible for arranging and maintaining these supports.
- Students receiving academic accommodations/adjustments, auxiliary aids and services shall be responsible in their use of DSPS services and adhere to written service provision policies adopted by DSPS. Violation of any DSPS policy may result in suspension or termination of DSPS services and/or accommodations. Students will be notified in writing before any action is taken to suspend services and/or accommodations.
- Accommodations approved at Citrus College may not transfer to other colleges or universities, as each institution has its own policies, procedures and resources.
