FROM THE FOUNDING OF CITRUS UNION HIGH SCHOOL TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE CITRUS COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT IN GLENDORA

KEY DATES EVENTS
July 14, 1891 Citrus Union High School founded as the first union high school in California. First year: 1891–92.
June 5, 1915 Citrus College founded as the first junior college in Los Angeles County, the fifth in California, and one of the nation's pioneers in the concept of providing the first two years of college in a student's hometown.
1922 Citrus College and Citrus Union High School moved from their Dalton Hill site in Azusa to a new 16-acre campus at Foothill Boulevard and Ben Lomond Avenue (now Barranca Avenue), on the border of Azusa and Glendora.
September 1956 and 1958 Local high schools opened — Azusa High School in September 1956; Glendora High School in September 1958.
July 1, 1961 Citrus Union High School dissolved; Citrus Junior College District went into effect.
June 5, 1962 $6 million bond measure approved; state and federal funds helped finance campus modernization and expansion, including new buildings, an addition to the gymnasium and classroom wings for music, speech and drama (opened in phases from September 1964 through June 1971).
February 14, 1967 Voters approved proposal forming a new college district composed of Azusa, Claremont, Duarte, Glendora and Monrovia unified school districts.
July 1, 1968 The new Citrus Junior College District went into effect.
November 1970 District name changed to Citrus Community College District, composed of the Azusa, Claremont, Duarte, Glendora and Monrovia unified school districts.
October 16, 1978 The Child Development Center opened, quickly becoming a vital part of the Citrus College community for 33 years.
January 1985 College officially annexed into the city of Glendora following a year of proceedings.
