Congratulations to Yesenia Bugarin, a 2023 Citrus College graduate who was also named a Key of Knowledge recipient at the 60th annual Achievement Awards ceremony. This fall, she will attend Cal Poly Pomona and study business administration with a focus in international business.
While at Citrus College, Yesenia was part of the Promise program and Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS). She also worked in the Counseling and Advisement Center and co-founded the First Generation Club, which allowed her to create meaningful relationships with faculty and students.
"I'm grateful for all the opportunities I've been offered at Citrus College," Yesenia said.
At Citrus College, Yesenia studied business administration and hopes to one day work internationally.
"The idea of traveling to someplace new and getting hands-on experience is exciting to me," she said. "I also believe that interacting with different and diverse cultures will be helpful in my future career."
Yesenia praised counselor Raul Sanchez for helping her choose the right classes and for sharing advice. "Raul has been my counselor throughout my entire time at Citrus," Yesenia said. "Without his help, I don't know if I would have finished in two years."
In addition, she expressed gratitude to completion specialists Alexa Filatoff and Lilianna Verduzco from the Promise program, which is dedicated to increasing college access for first-time college students, providing support and promoting completion.
"Alexa and Lilianna helped make my college experience enjoyable," Yesenia said. "[The Promise program] provided me with some amazing opportunities, such as the chance to speak at three college events. Although I was nervous to engage in these public speaking roles, those experiences will stay with me for a long time, and I have them to thank for that."
Yesenia said she will carry with her to Cal Poly Pomona the confidence and academic skills she acquired at Citrus College.
"Whether you're a first-time or returning student, community college offers a smooth transition into the college learning experience," Yesenia said. "Smaller class sizes and the chance to know your classmates, instructors and campus staff on a one-on-one level is something that can't be found at every institution."
Thank you for your service to Citrus College, Yesenia! The campus community can't wait to see what you accomplish next!
