Hats off to Mia Godoy, a 21-year-old educational teaching studies major at Citrus College who is enthusiastically embracing life as a mom, student and athlete.

A graduate of West Covina High School, Mia says she was motivated to pursue her education by "two boys" – her husband Yahir and son Easton. "They have inspired me to keep going," she said. "I not only want to get my education and become successful for my family, but I also want to show my son that no matter what challenges you may face, you can still get your education and follow your dreams."

For Mia, that dream is to become an elementary school teacher. "I would love to bring a different style of teaching to my classroom," she said. "One that makes learning fun and helps my students feel excited about coming to school every day."

Beyond her studies, Mia thrives as an active member of the Citrus College Athletics program. In fact, she earned All-Western State Conference second-team honors as part of the softball team in 2022. While juggling softball and her studies can be challenging, she feels fortunate to have a strong support system. "This is my final year playing here at Citrus," she explains. "I'm so thankful for the support I have at home. I'm especially grateful to my mom, who has taken on the role of caring for my son so I can continue both my education and my sport."

As she continues her path at Citrus College, Mia looks ahead with optimism. "I'm very excited for this year and to see how far I will go," she said. "I want to show my son that anything is possible."

Way to go, Mia! You make Citrus College proud!
