Congratulations to Kim Toth, a Citrus College alumna who is currently curating a photography exhibit at the University of La Verne!
Kim discovered Citrus College several years ago while looking for schools that offered digital photography classes. What started as a plan to only enroll in one course culminated in a several-year stay that produced three associate degrees in photography, visual arts and studio art.
"My entire experience at Citrus College was incredible," Kim said. "All of my photo and art classes were fun and engaging, and I always felt supported by all of my instructors, even when we transitioned to online learning in 2020 due to the pandemic."
Kim said she is grateful for all the support she received, especially from Citrus College photography instructor Amanda Keller Konya.
"My first class was Photo 101 with her, and she has been my most incredible mentor ever since," Kim said. "She is so supportive of her students and always provides resources and shares information on opportunities to help propel them forward with photography."
After graduating from Citrus College, Kim enrolled at the University of La Verne, where she will soon graduate with a bachelor's degree in photography. As a student, she has been able to expand her photography skills by incorporating analog photography as well as the conceptual and fine art aspects of photography.
For the spring 2024 semester, Kim is curating a photography exhibit, "Lost and Found: Rediscovering the Archive." The exhibit, which runs through May 24, features work from University of La Verne photography students and alumni who have reimagined photographs from their personal archives.
In addition, Kim's senior thesis exhibit, "PUSH and PULL," recently opened. The exhibit includes her work and that of another graduating photography student, Ethan Bermudez.
After graduating in May, the mother of four plans to take a few months off from school. She plans to continue teaching part-time as a Citrus College adjunct instructor, while also continuing her fine art photography practice. Next spring, she plans to apply for graduate schools with hopes of attending in fall 2025.
Way to go, Kim! We're so proud of you!
