Congratulations to Kevin Tapia, a Citrus College alumnus who is excelling in the biotechnology industry!

As an Owl, Kevin worked hard in the lab and classroom, earning an associate degree in biological sciences and certificate in biomanufacturing in 2019. After graduating from Citrus College, Kevin began working in the biotechnology industry. Currently, he works at Gilead Sciences as a clinical manufacturing technician III.

"I have gained so much experience in this role," Kevin said. "I enjoy having an opportunity to get involved in all aspects of our department, including taking on projects."

In his current role, Kevin and his upstream cell culture team are responsible for formulating biologics in the clinical research pipeline. These drugs are then transferred for further purification and later shipped out to be used in clinical trials around the world.

Kevin said he uses the knowledge and experience he gained at Citrus College in his current job.

"The biotechnology program provided a deep understanding and knowledge of good manufacturing practices and good documentation practices," Kevin said.

"The program also taught me how to apply it in a lab setting, which has set me up for success in my career."

For Citrus College students seeking a career in biotechnology, Kevin recommends that they continue to hone their soft skills.

"Those skills play an immense role in your success," Kevin said. "Interviewing skills, working well on a team, punctuality and having a positive attitude will take you far in your career."

The entire campus community is so proud of you, Kevin! We can't wait to see what you accomplish next!
