Campus Safety Statement
In compliance with the Student Right-to-Know and Campus Security Act of 1990 and to ensure a safe, secure environment, the college has adopted the following procedures.
Reporting Incidents
Campus Safety Building is located off Citrus Avenue, near the main entrance of the
campus. Students and staff should report all criminal acts or other emergencies occurring
on campus to campus safety. Incidents may be reported by phone at (626) 914-8611 or
in person.
Access to Facilities
Only employees are authorized to have keys to buildings; no students are to have
access to campus facilities without employee supervision.
Enforcement and Safety
Campus safety has the authority to enforce the college board policy BP 5500 Standards of Conduct, and, according to the Education Code, is the liaison with local police departments
in all cases of criminal actions. Any action that is a violation of the penal code
of the State of California will be reported to the local police.
The campus emergency procedures publication states students and staff should make a prompt and accurate report to campus safety in the event of an emergency. It is the responsibility of campus safety to make contact with police agencies.
Personal Security and Safety
Campus programs that inform students and employees about being responsible for their
own security and the security of others include:
- emergency procedures publication distributed widely on campus
- regular email notifications distributed electronically to all staff and students
- articles in the student newspaper on security-related issues
- programs presented by the Associated Students of Citrus College
- professional learning programs
Possession of Intoxicants, Substances
The standards of conduct and the penal code prohibit the possession, use and sale
of alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs on campus.
Other Campus Safety Services
In addition to providing general safety and protection, campus safety officers
may perform the following services on college district property only under the following
circumstances.
- Take reports of unusual occurrences or crimes which take place on campus
- Provide directions and information regarding campus facilities and events
- Provide escort services for staff and students
- Provide lost and found property services
- Render first aid when the Student Wellness Center is closed
- Assist in starting vehicles by jumpstarting dead batteries
- Open locked vehicles (upon proper identification by owner)
- Unlocking or securing rooms and buildings
- Patrolling campus, ensuring the safety of students, staff and guests on property
