Congratulations to Kenn Salazar, a 2023 graduate who will be attending Cal Poly Pomona this fall!
Kenn studied sociology at Citrus College because of their passion for the subject and how it teaches them about society and societal behaviors. Plus, the major gives them plenty of career options.
"My time at Citrus College has been great," Kenn said. "This is the most dedicated I've been since high school, and I'm just very appreciative of Citrus College for allowing me to have a smooth and positive experience."
In addition to their academic studies, Kenn was also involved in the Black Scholars program. Launched in 2021, the program is geared toward promoting Black excellence through history, scholarship and community.
"To be in community with other Black, educated individuals felt so good and empowering," Kenn said. "That program was a support system that I needed to help guide me through my community college journey."
One of their favorite experiences at Citrus College was attending the African American Male Education Network and Development (A2MEND) with other students in the Black Scholars program.
"I had never had such an experience with just so much Black excellence, joy and love," Kenn said. "The space was so free and inclusive to Black queer community members and educators. It was such a dope experience!"
At Cal Poly Pomona, Kenn plans to major in gender, ethnic and multicultural studies (GEMS). Though they will soon become a Bronco, Kenn will always remain an Owl.
"Community college is the best route for getting a higher education, in my opinion," Kenn said. "It allows you to work toward the bigger picture, but in smaller portions so that you don't get so overwhelmed and burnt out."
Thank you for your service to Citrus College, Kenn! The campus community can't wait to see what your future holds.
