Pending board of trustee approval, Citrus College students will have the opportunity to make Athens, Greece, their classroom in January 2027. The study abroad program combines CSU/UC transferable coursework with firsthand exploration of some of Greece's most iconic sites, including the Acropolis, Ancient Agora, Delphi, Olympia and the Temple of Poseidon.
Students will study with Citrus College faculty and attend classes at MET College while extending their learning through guided museum visits, guest lectures on Greek politics and the Olympic tradition, Greek cooking classes and other cultural experiences. The program also includes a three-island cruise in the Aegean Sea and a five-day excursion to Olympia and Delphi, with additional time to experience Athens and opportunities for independent travel during free weekends.
ATHENS, GREECE PROGRAM FEE
Based on an enrollment of 20-29 participants, the fee per person is $4545. For an
enrollment of 30 or more, the fee is $4125.
- Program Components: Program components, including courses, activities and excursions, may change if enrollment is below 20 students.
- Includes: Twin-bedded rooms in one-bedroom apartments in a tourist-class apartment in Athens.
- Excludes: The program fee excludes flight, entertainment and most meals.

- Deposit Deadline: $450 by October 11, 2026 (Deposits are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.)
- Courses: Students may enroll in one or both courses. See below for class and instructor information. Students must enroll in a minimum of three units. Online courses are not recommended while studying in Greece.

COURSES AND FACULTY
ANTH 220 – Introduction to Archaeology (3 units), taught by Dana Keithly, MA, MFA
Dana Keithly is an adjunct anthropology instructor with degrees from UCLA and CSU
Fullerton and over 20 years of teaching experience in archaeology, cultural anthropology,
biological anthropology, visual culture and food anthropology.
ENGL 271 – Introduction to World Literature: Ancient–Early Modern (3 units), taught by Nicholas Henson, Ph.D.
Nicholas Henson earned his Ph.D. from the University of Oregon and has over 20 years
of teaching experience in English composition and world literature. He previously
led Citrus College's Paris Winter 2025 study abroad program.

LIVING ACCOMMODATIONS
Twin-bedded rooms in one-bedroom apartments in a tourist-class apartment in Athens.
Linens, towels, kitchen packs and free wireless internet are provided.
MEALS
Self-catering facilities, a light meal on arrival, welcome meal, farewell meal and
occasional meals on excursions or activities.
COMMUTING
Athena Card travel pass for unlimited metro and bus travel in Athens during the program
ACADEMIC PROGRAM
Two guest lectures, a cooking class and visits related to course topics such as the
Olympic Stadium and Hellenic Parliament
ACCESS TO CULTURAL SITES
ICOMOS student membership providing admission to many archaeological sites and museums,
including the Acropolis, Acropolis Museum, National Archaeological Museum, Ancient
and Roman Agora, Temple of Poseidon, Olympia, Delphi, Thebes and Mycenae.
INTRODUCTION
Orientation including safety information and a local area walking tour
GUIDED TOURS
- Guided walking tour of Athens including the Acropolis
- Two additional guided tours in Athens related to course curriculum
EXCURSIONS
- Full-day cruise to Hydra, Poros, and Aegina with entertainment, lunch and sightseeing
- Half-day excursion to Sounion including a group meal and visit to the Temple of Poseidon
- Five-day, four-night excursion to Olympia and Delphi with transportation, hotels, breakfasts, dinners, one lunch, and visits to Mycenae, Corinth Canal, Nafplion, Olympia, Delphi and Thebes

Round-trip airfare between Los Angeles and Athens and round-trip airport transfers in Athens are available for an additional $490.
Government taxes, fees and fuel surcharges of $706 (subject to change) are billed separately.
