I applied to transfer to a UC, what's next?
Reminders:
-
Check the email you listed in the UC application frequently, including your SPAM/junk folder.
-
Create a portal account for each UC you applied to. Use the login instructions sent from the individual campuses. Remember to write down the usernames and passwords for all the portals!
-
Meet all deadlines! Missing deadlines or submitting items late can jeopardize your admission.
-
If you have transcripts from other colleges/universities, have your official transcripts mailed to Citrus College. If you plan to use the coursework to complete requirements toward a degree or certificate at Citrus College, please submit a request to evaluate your transcript(s).
There are some important steps that you will need to follow after you apply.
-
Update Your Transfer Academic Update (TAU) in January
After you submit your application and the current semester ends, you will need to log on to your UC account to update your application. You should update the application with your grades from the semester completed. At this time, you should also update any changes to the upcoming semester if you dropped or changed your classes. Be sure to update your application before the deadline! Visit the application assistance drop-in sessions in the Career/Transfer Center for assistance. -
Complete Supplemental Applications (if applicable)
Certain campuses and majors have supplemental applications that MUST be completed. Be sure to check your email for instructions and deadlines on supplemental applications. -
Apply to Graduate (if applicable)
Don't forget this important step! You MUST submit an application to graduate from Citrus College if you are earning an associate degree or ADT. If you have transcripts from other campuses, make sure Citrus has them on file. You can find the graduation application and deadlines here. -

Some campuses may ask you to complete important documents such as tuition exemption or residency forms. Be sure to send all documents by the deadline. This is extremely important, as your acceptance can be rescinded if you submit items late.
Campus Housing
Will you be relocating when you transfer and need information on housing? Check the
website of the UC campus you will be attending for on-campus and off-campus housing
opportunities. Be sure to apply for on-campus housing by the deadline. Many campuses
offer specific housing for transfer students!
Financial Support
Don't forget to ask about the Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan! To apply for state and
federal financial aid (grants and loans), complete the FAFSA application. AB 540 eligible

ASSOCIATE DEGREES FOR TRANSFER
The associate degrees for transfer (ADT), also known as an associate in art for transfer (AA-T) and an associate in science for transfer (AS-T), are associate degrees that guarantee your admission with junior standing to the California State University system, but not necessarily to a particular campus.
What does the ADT program do for me?
-
Provides you with priority admission to your local CSU campus and to a program or major that is similar to the major or area of emphasis you studied at your community college.
-
Prohibits the CSU from requiring you to repeat courses that are similar to those completed at your community college as part of your associate degree for transfer.
-
Prohibits the CSU from requiring you to take more than 60 units to complete a 120-unit baccalaureate degree.
-
Reduces the need to take unnecessary courses, thereby shortening your time to degree completion and reducing your costs at the community college and CSU.

If you drop or change a course, you should meet with a counselor to make sure you

GENERAL EDUCATION TRANSFER CURRICULUM
THE NEW GE PATTERN FOR CSU AND UC
Effective fall 2025, Assembly Bill 928 (AB 928) requires that California Community
Colleges (CCC) implement a singular lower division general education (GE) pattern
called the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC). Cal-GETC will
satisfy the lower division GE requirements for transfer and admissions to the California
State University (CSU) and University of California (UC).
Cal-GETC is an 11 course/34 semester unit curriculum that will satisfy the necessary lower-division general education requirements for the CSU and UC systems. A grade of "C" or higher is required for all coursework completed.
Completion of Cal-GETC is not an admission requirement or admission guarantee for transfer to the UC or CSU. Completion of Cal-GETC may not be appropriate for some majors. Additionally, some individual colleges or majors within a UC campus may not accept or recommend Cal-GETC to fulfill all of their general education requirements. Students should schedule an appointment with a counselor to discuss the most appropriate general education pattern for their major and intended transfer institution.
If you have questions about Cal-GETC, you may schedule a counseling appointment by contacting the Counseling and Advisement Center at (626) 914-8530 or the Career/Transfer Center at (626) 914-8639.
ANSWERS TO COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
For students starting college in fall 2025 or after, Cal-GETC will be the GE pattern that will be used to meet the CSU/UC general education requirements.
Please note: Students who have catalog rights prior to fall 2025 may elect to complete the Cal-GETC pattern, but it is not required. Meet with a counselor to determine which GE pattern is most appropriate for you to follow.
Students in the following situations are not required to follow Cal-GETC:
- Goal is to earn an associate degree (AA/AS) without transfer; follow the Citrus College General Education Requirements.
- Have catalog rights prior to fall 2025
Yes, you will be able to complete the CSU GE pattern for CSU transfer or IGETC for CSU/UC transfer.
A student who completed college classes at a California community college in summer 2025 or prior may follow the CSU GE pattern for CSU transfer or IGETC for CSU/UC transfer. Students may elect to change to the Cal-GETC pattern in fall 2025, but it is not required.
Please schedule an appointment with a counselor to determine which GE pattern may be best for you.
Yes, you will complete all lower-division general education requirements to transfer to a UC or CSU. However, CSU campuses will require upper-division general education courses that must be completed at the university.
The degree audit feature in Degree Works allows students to check their progress toward completing general education and major requirements.
It is strongly recommended that students meet regularly with counselors to obtain comprehensive education plans, revise their plans as needed and to ensure they remain on track to complete their educational goals.
Each course must be completed with a grade of C or Pass (equal to 2.0) or higher. A grade of C- or lower will not be used to satisfy Cal-GETC.
Each GE area must be met by a distinct course. Each course must be a minimum of 3 semester units.
Citrus College will continue to certify completion of the CSU graduation requirement in U.S. History, Constitution and American Ideals.
Please note: The CSU U.S. History, Constitution and American Ideals graduation requirement is not part of Cal-GETC. A course used to satisfy this requirement may also be listed and applied to Cal-GETC subject areas. CSU campuses have the discretion on whether to allow courses not certified by CCC to satisfy the CSU United States History, Constitution and American Ideals graduation requirement to also count for GE.
Citrus College will no longer certify LOTE. Upon transfer, the UC campus will verify if the LOTE requirement has been met.
Please note: The LOTE graduation requirement is not part of Cal-GETC. Upon transfer to UC, a course that is approved to fulfill a Cal-GETC subject area may be used to satisfy the LOTE requirement if it meets relevant UC criteria.
-
CSU
The CSU system does not accept partial completion of Cal-GETC for certification purposes. However, completing Cal-GETC is not required to be eligible for transfer to a CSU campus. Students can still transfer without it, as long as they meet the CSU's general admission and transfer requirements. -
UC
In some cases — if the admitting UC college/school recognizes Cal‑GETC for breadth/GE, students may complete up to two remaining Cal‑GETC courses after they transfer, excluding Area 1 (English Communication) and Area 2 (Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning).
Cal‑GETC should be certified by the last California community college attended before transfer.
If the UC college/school does not recognize Cal‑GETC, its own lower‑division breadth/GE requirements apply.
Yes! To petition for a certificate of achievement, you will need to submit a graduation application through the admissions and records office.
You may schedule a counseling appointment by calling the Counseling and Advisement Center at (626) 914-8530 or the Career/Transfer Center at (626) 914-8639. You may also schedule an appointment online via the online scheduler.
