FOUNDED ON PURPOSE, BUILT WITH INTENTION

Black Scholars is a program that embodies academic excellence, cultural affirmation and leadership development. The program is rooted in the belief that Black students thrive when their identities, histories and lived experiences are honored as strengths within higher education spaces.

The program emphasizes career readiness, graduate and professional school preparation, financial literacy and networking, equipping students with the tools needed to transition successfully into their chosen fields. Grounded in collective uplift and Black excellence, Black Scholars develops students who are prepared not only to succeed academically, but to lead, innovate and create change in their communities and professions.

THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE: CONNECTION AND BELONGING

Through thoughtfully designed, relationship-centered experiences, Black Scholars draws students in by fostering connection, cultural affirmation and collective growth, creating spaces where Black students can gather, reflect and move forward together.

By encouraging critical dialogue, cultural engagement and leadership involvement, Black Scholars empowers students to advocate for themselves, excel in their disciplines and contribute meaningfully to their campus communities.

Ongoing engagement is maintained through monthly program meetings and community-building events, including study halls, cultural celebrations such as Black History Month and Juneteenth programming and wellness workshops.

Lastly, students are encouraged to take on leadership roles within the program, contributing to event planning, leading discussions and representing Black Scholars across campus. By centering student voice and leadership, the program reinforces agency, ownership and a deep sense of belonging within both the Black Scholars community and the broader institution.
