Citrus College students attend Black College Expo
Five Citrus College students recently attended the 23rd annual Black College Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center, where they learned about transfer resources and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
The students, who are part of the college's Black Scholars program, were joined by Educational Advisor Dominic Jacquet and Dr. My Chau, assistant director of the student equity and achievement program.
The expo proved extremely helpful to the Black Scholars in attendance, since half of them are at the beginning of their educational journeys and hope to transfer to an HBCU. The other half are almost finished with their educational goals and have applied or will soon apply to transfer.
Some of the universities even offered on-the-spot admission as well as thousands of dollars in scholarships.
"Celebrating the success of other students provided encouragement and hope to our students," said Dr. Chau. "The expo was a fun day filled with Black culture and Black academic excellence, which is in alignment with the mission statement of the Black Scholars program."
