GENERAL COVID-19 AWARENESS
Since early 2020, Citrus College has remained vigilant in tracking COVID-19 conditions
across Los Angeles County, California and the nation. This page serves as a central
hub for timely updates, and helping our college community stay informed and prepared
should the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health report an increase in confirmed cases.
CURRENT PROTOCOLS
The college has established COVID-19 safety protocols to help protect our community
and align with the recommendations and requirements of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
MASKS: Protecting Yourself and Others
Effective treatments are now available for both COVID-19 and the flu, reducing the
severity of illness and aiding recovery. Just as important, we can each take preventive
steps to limit the spread of respiratory viruses. Wearing a well-fitted, high-quality
mask indoors — particularly if you are ill or in crowded settings — is a simple action
that helps safeguard your health and the health of those around you.
If you choose to wear a mask, a medical-grade option — such as a surgical, N-95 or KN-95 mask — is recommended. For the best protection, be sure your mask is worn properly, covering both your nose and mouth.
PRE-SCREENING
Utilization of the daily pre-screening function via the now-defunct Citrus College
Mobile app is no longer required (effective May 2, 2023).
PRACTICE GOOD HYGIENE: Simple Habits, Strong Protection
Good hygiene is one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect your health
every day. Regular handwashing helps stop the spread of germs before they make you
or others sick. Just as important, covering your coughs and sneezes shows respect
for those around you and reduces the risk of spreading illnesses like colds, flu and
COVID-19.
These small, everyday choices add up — protecting not only your own wellbeing, but also the health of your classmates, colleagues, friends and family.
FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE COVID-19 POSITIVE
The following is based on recommendations from the Los Angeles County Department of
Health, the California Department of Public Health and Cal/OSHA. (August 8, 2024)
- Isolate: Employees and students who test positive or have been otherwise diagnosed as being infected with COVID-19 (COVID-19 case) must isolate and remain off campus.
- Improvement: An employee or student may end their isolation and return to work, classes or other campus activities once they have been fever-free (less than 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit) for at least 24 hours and their symptoms, if present, are improving.
- Test: A negative COVID-19 test is not required as a condition for ending isolation.
- Mask Up: Regardless of the isolation period, an employee or student should wear an appropriate face covering (mask) while indoors in any district building for 10 days from the date symptoms began or from the date of a positive COVID-19 test, whichever is earlier.
FOR THOSE WHO'VE BEEN IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH A COVID-19 CASE
The following is based on recommendations from the Los Angeles County Department of
Health, the California Department of Public Health and Cal/OSHA. (May 2, 2023)
Close contacts do not need to stay away from on-campus classes/activities.
Any student or employee who has received notice that they have been a close contact with a COVID-19 case should:
- Mask Up: For 10 days after your last exposure, wear a snug, well-fitting mask when around others. Because people can carry COVID-19 without showing symptoms, this step helps prevent unknowingly spreading the virus — especially to those who are more vulnerable.
- Watch Your Health: Keep an eye on how you feel for 10 days following exposure.
- Get Tested: Take a COVID-19 test three to five days after your last exposure. If you've had COVID-19 within the past 90 days, check the current recommendations on whether you should be tested again.
VACCINATION INFORMATION
COVID-19 vaccinations and booster shots are strongly encouraged, though not required
at Citrus College. For the most current details on available vaccines and where to
receive them, please visit the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health website.
