Real estate program continues its growth streak

Did you know that Citrus College is home to a growing real estate program that helps students become real estate agents, brokers and appraisers?

"The real estate industry has so much opportunity and excitement, but a lot of people don't know where to start," said instructor Nick Paulson. "We've created certificates that have direct application to new careers in real estate."

Based in the mathematics and business division, the program offers students the opportunity to earn an associate degree or a sales, broker or appraisal certificate of achievement.

Having grown considerably in recent years, the program will expand its offerings next year with new courses in real estate investing and appraisal, said Dr. Timothy Durfield, another faculty member in the real estate program. One course will be centered on the investment opportunities of buying and flipping homes.

Most recently, the program was in the spotlight when three students — Ernesto Bustillos, Amanda Macon and Shihab Sbeta — each received a $600 scholarship from the Real Estate Education Endowment, which is overseen by the Foundation for California Community Colleges. The Citrus College Foundation helped students apply for the award.
