Eleven student representatives from the Citrus College Clarion newspaper and Logos Magazine participated in the regional Journalism Association of Community Colleges (JACC) conference on Oct. 19 at California State University, Fullerton. The team finished with 11 individual awards – nine from publication contests for work published by the Clarion and Logos during the 2018-2019 academic year and two from on-the-spot contests held during the convention.
Citrus College also won two important team awards: the Clarion newspaper and Clarion website won "General Excellence" recognition. This is the highest overall recognition a publication can receive, and it encompasses design, photography, writing and more.
Publication contest winners:
- Online photo story essay: Vicman Thome and Giselle Vargas, second place
- Magazine design/layout: Logos staff, second place
- Magazine photo: Liandra Thibodeaux, third place
- Environmental portrait: Liandra Thibodeaux, fourth place
- Magazine cover design: Xela Quintana, fourth place
- Inside page layout: Xela Quintana and John Michaelides, fourth place
- Sports game story: Tannan Luzzo, honorable mention
- Magazine profile story: Tannan Luzzo, honorable mention
- Enterprise news story/series: Sayedah Mosavi, meritorious (places are not awarded in this category – only meritorious recognition for work deemed worthy)
On-the-spot contest winners:
- Editorial cartoon: Daniela Navarro, honorable mention
- Copy editing: Vicman Thome, honorable mention
