Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness
The institutional research, planning and effectiveness (IRPE) office supports the college's mission by providing data and analysis mostly related to program reviews in instruction, academic support and student services programs; the identification of measurable outcomes; and benchmarking progress toward longstanding institutional priorities and commitments.
Objectives, activities and programs calling for increased student access, equity, success, persistence and completion of educational or vocational goals require proper identification of outcomes and data to hone in on targets for improvement and change. Although it is each program and department's responsibility to initiate the research study needed for evaluation and program improvement, IRPE provides support through research and data analysis to assist the departments in meeting their goals.
Citrus College participates in the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) every two years. This nationwide survey examines students' experiences and perceptions as they relate to their engagement and learning at the college.

Math Corequisite Survey Results
Under the implementation of AB 705, Citrus College made changes to transfer-level
math courses for the purpose of increasing completion of transfer-level math within
a one-year time frame. These changes included students' placement in the math course
sequence, classroom redesign and pedagogy. To better understand the student experience
as a result of these modifications, students were surveyed about their experience
in the newly redesigned courses.

The Guided Pathways: Cohort Outcomes by CAP features outcome data of five first-time cohorts from 2017/2018 to 2021/2022. It provides information on demographic counts by CAP, full-time students during their first term, term-to-term persistence and transfer-level math and/or English completion during the student's first year at Citrus College.
The dashboard also includes course success rates by cohort during the student's first year, and three-year transfer rates to a four-year university or degree completion.
The dashboard highlights the outcome rates by demographics, including race, gender, age and special population groups.

Introductions
From time to time, Citrus College receives requests from individuals who wish to conduct
research on campus involving its employees or students. To ensure that research participants
are fully informed about the nature of the study, that their rights are protected
and that the research aligns with the citrus College mission, vision, values and strategic
objectives, a Research Project Approval Form has been created. This form is designed to protect classroom time, as well as the
rights of employees and students, while minimizing the college's liability.
Guidelines
The following guidelines apply to all external research projects involving Citrus
College. An external research project is defined as any study that falls outside the
normal day-to-day operations of Citrus College. A typical example of an external research
project would be one conducted by a master's or doctoral student seeking to recruit
Citrus College students or employees as participants. In contrast, normal day-to-day
operations include program reviews, student learning outcomes assessments and projects
that are part of a Citrus College course.
Obtaining Permissions
Anyone — whether an employee, student or external individual — who wishes to initiate
an external research project must obtain permission by first completing the Research
Project Approval Form. All requests for external research should be forwarded to the
office of institutional research, planning and effectiveness (IRPE). The Citrus College
Research Review Board (CCRRB) will review the application, discuss any necessary changes
or implications with the principal investigator and make final recommendations to
the appropriate vice president. The CCRRB functions as a subcommittee of the Institutional
Research and Planning Committee (IRPC) and is composed of the IRPC chair, a faculty
representative and a dean from either academic affairs or student services. A copy
of all research findings will be maintained in the IRPC office.
Citrus College employees and students, as well as external individuals wishing to conduct on-campus research projects, should contact Lan Hao, Ph.D., director of IRPE, at (626) 914-8521 or lhao@citruscollege.edu.
Download the Research Project Approval Form, complete it and email all required documents to lhao@citruscollege.edu.
