​​​​​​You may register to vote if you meet the following criteria:​

  • you are a United States citizen
  • you are a resident of California
  • you are at least 18 years of age (or will be by the date of the next election)
  • you are not in prison or on parole for conviction of a felony
  • you have not been judged by a court to be mentally incompetent to register and vote

You will need to re-register to vote if you move, you change your name, or you choose to change your political party affiliation.

Important Dates

  • May 23, 2022 : Voter registration deadline for the California primary election

  • June 7, 2022 : Primary Election Day
    Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked on or before election day and received by June 14, 2022, or turned in at a secure ballot drop box or polling place by 8 p.m. on June 7, 2022

  • September 20, 2022 : National Voter Registration Day
