Student Parent Resources

If you are a student who supports your under 18 year old children financially (more than half of their support), there are resources available to help you. Starting fall 2023, students who provide more than half of the support for their children under 18 can request priority registration through the Parent Priority Registration Request form.

Campus Resources

CalFresh Assistance+-

CalFresh is a monthly cash assistance program for food. You can buy groceries and fresh produce at participating stores and farmers markets. Enroll for CalFresh online.

CalWORKs+-

The California Work Opportunity and Responsibility for Kids (CalWORKs) is the state's welfare-to-work program for families with children.

The Citrus College CalWORKs Program works in collaboration with the Department of Public Social Services to assist students with education, training, and job skills.

CalWORKs students are provided:

Academic, career, and personal counseling services
Short and long term career planning
Information and clarification about county welfare requirements
Completion of county paperwork for childcare and ancillary expenses
Referrals to part-time work-study jobs on campus
Assistance with job development resources such as resume writing
Referrals for medical, mental health, and legal aid services

CARE+-

Citrus College's Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) program provides single-parent EOPS students who receive TANF/CalWORKs for themselves or their child(ren) with a variety of academic and financial support services such as:

counseling and support services,
help with car maintenance,
school supplies,
meal tickets,
gas cards,
grants,
and more!

Lactation Station+-

A private lactation station is available in the Hayden Memorial Library, lower level (LI 128). Students, staff or faculty may request access at the library checkout desk.

A private lactation station is available in the Educational Development Center, upper level (ED 202). Students, staff, or faculty can access the room during the building's operating hours.

Community, State and Government Services

CalEITC+-

The California Earn Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) offers support for low-income, working Californians. You may be eligible for up to $3,417 cash back or a reduction of the tax you owe (2022 CalEITC credit).

To claim CalEITC, you must file your state tax return. Visit the CalEITC eligibility and credit information website to check if you qualify for CalEITC, to learn more about the tax credit, and to apply.

Child Care+-

Visit the ChildCare.gov website to learn about all the childcare options that may be available.

Covered California+-

Covered California Health Exchange is the government agency offering subsidized healthcare plans for this state.

The Covered California website offers enrollment information for affordable healthcare plans.

Medi-Cal+-

Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program. It is a public health insurance program for low-income individuals including families with children, seniors, persons with disabilities, foster care, pregnant women, and low-income people with specific diseases.

Options for Learning+-

Options for Learning provides child care and before/after-school programs. Their resource and referral program assist families, regardless of income, in locating licensed child care free of charge or low cost.

Young Child Tax Credit+-

The Young Child Tax Credit (YCTC) provides a credit of up to $1,083 per tax return for Californians who qualify for CalEITC and have a child under six years old.

WIC+-

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a federal program that provides:

grants to states for supplemental foods,
health care referrals,
nutrition education for low-income pregnant,
breastfeeding, and
non-breastfeeding for postpartum women and infants and children under age five who are found to be at nutritional risk.
