Safe Zone is a campus-wide program committed to making Citrus College a safer, more welcoming, and inclusive environment for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) community. Citrus College Safe Zone program offers LGBTQ ally sensitivity and development training ranging from learning language and cultural education, the coming out process and identity development models, sensitivity education that interrupts bias for students and employees, and providing campus, local and national resources. After completing the training, participants become a recognized campus ally and a Citrus College Safe Space decal will be provided that can be displayed for the community to recognize you as a Safe Zone ally. Group trainings are limited to 15 persons to ensure quality discussions and ally sensitivity development exercises.
Safe Zone allies support and create safe spaces at Citrus College for LGBTQ individuals so they may thrive as students and employees.
The safe spaces created by Safe Zone allies are positive places where self-expression is respected without fear of being made to feel uncomfortable, intellectually challenged, unwelcome, or unsafe on account of biological sex, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, cultural background, age, or physical or mental ability.
The Citrus College Safe Zone program serves to identify and train faculty, staff, and students who are sensitive and affirmative to the needs of sexual minorities, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer persons. The program goal is to reduce the incidences of heterosexism and homophobia on our campus to promote a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for all, regardless of sexual orientation and/or gender expression.
To create welcoming safe spaces at Citrus College through increasing ally membership by providing frequent Safe Zone sensitivity educational trainings that interrupt bias and promote the continuous improvement of the campus climate.
