We have reached a turning point in our national history. Over the last year and a half, pandemic-driven disparities and instances of injustice have emphasized the fact that structural racism must be eliminated at all levels of society. As open access institutions, community colleges are well-positioned to lead this charge. Recognizing our unique role, Citrus College has been actively working toward understanding how we can best influence change throughout our campus and beyond.
Since June 2020, our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force has been diligently reviewing the entire framework of Citrus College. Comprised of dedicated representatives from each constituent group, the task force has performed assessments of policies, practices, services and more. At the same time, the entire campus community is working to ensure that Citrus College continues to be a welcoming and inclusive place for students, employees and the community at large.
While we are proud of the progress that has been made, we also know that our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts are just beginning. This work belongs to every member of the Citrus College community - and there is so much more to do. Together, we will continue to learn, have uncomfortable yet necessary conversations and work toward a future that is just and equitable for all.
In solidarity,
Greg Schulz, Ed.D., superintendent/president
