The Citrus College Honors Transfer program is designed to enhance the educational opportunities of those students who desire to go beyond the boundaries of the regular classes offered at Citrus College. The program provides an opportunity for highly motivated students to participate in an enriched academic environment that promotes close interaction with outstanding faculty and other honors students.

Student Eligibility

Honor transfer program accepts applications on a rolling basis throughout the year; however, to be considered for priority registration, submit your application two weeks prior to the important dates deadline.

New students entering Citrus College from a high school should meet the following requirements:+-

Have a minimum 3.25 (non-weighted) or 3.5 (weighted) cumulative GPA from high school

Submit a typed 300-500 word essay - What are your skills and experiences that have prepared you for the honors transfer program? Please provide specific examples.

One letter of recommendation from an instructor, counselor or high school contact

Submit unofficial high school transcripts

Submit a completed Citrus College Honors Transfer program application

Current Citrus College students should meet the following requirements:+-

Completion of six (6) semester units of college level course work

Eligibility for ENGL 101 or completion of ENGL 101E

Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 at Citrus College

Submit a typed 300-500 word essay - What are your skills and experiences that have prepared you for the honors transfer program? Please provide specific examples.

One letter of recommendation from a Citrus College instructor or counselor

Submit unofficial Citrus College transcript from Wingspan

Submit a completed Citrus College Honors Transfer program application

College students transferring to Citrus College should meet the following requirements:+-

Verify successful completion of nine (9) college level units

Cumulative 3.00 GPA

Eligibility for ENGL 101 or completion of ENGL 101E or equivalent

Submit a typed 300-500 word essay - What are your skills and experiences that have prepared you for the honors transfer program? Please provide specific examples.

Submit all unofficial college or university transcripts

One letter of recommendation from an instructor, counselor or high school contact

Submit a completed Citrus College Honors Transfer program application

Continuation Requirements+-

Maintain a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA.

Complete ENGL 101 or 103 during the first year in the program (unless it has already been completed). An honors course must also be completed during the first semester in the program.

Complete at least one honors class in fall and spring semesters to maintain priority registration. Students who are unable to register for an honors course in a particular semester must meet with the honors transfer program counselor. To schedule an appointment, go to the appointment scheduling system page.

Students must meet with an honors transfer program counselor at least once a semester to maintain priority registration.

Student should maintain a "B" or better grade in all honors courses. Students receiving less than a "B" grade will be placed on probation and must meet with honors transfer program coordinator and the honors counselor to petition to remain in the program.

Participate in at least 30 verified hours of extracurricular enrichment activities while enrolled in the honors transfer program. This includes, but is not limited to, campus enrichment seminars sponsored by the honors transfer program, service learning, service in AGS/PTK and service in student government.

Honors Transfer Program Completion Requirements+-

Complete at least 15 honors units with a grade of "B" or better.

Have a 3.25 GPA or higher at the time of completion

Complete at least verified 30 hours of community service or extracurricular activities. Fill out and turn in the service log form.

Complete and submit the honor transfer program completion form in the semester the program requirements are completed and/or plan to transfer.

Students who complete the program will receive a medallion, a certificate of completion, participation in the honors transfer program reception and recognition at graduation.

Honors transfer program students who do not meet the qualifications above by the time of transfer/graduation will receive a certificate of participation to recognize their involvement in the program.

Tips for Success+-

The preparation courses for the students' selected major are essential in order to enhance a student's chances of being accepted to the more competitive majors and universities. Taking these courses may be required for impacted majors at many of the universities. It is recommended that students take major preparation courses as early as possible. This is also true for required math courses. Taking any of these courses the summer prior to transfer may jeopardize the student's acceptance to their selected university or college.

Courses

Honors courses are designed to meet transfer requirements for any California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) campus, as well as many private institutions. Successful completion of the program, along with meeting all major transfer requirements, can result in priority consideration for admission, along with other benefits, at specific four-year institutions.

Among the benefits of being a part of the Citrus College Honors Transfer program are:

• small class sizes offering individualized interaction between faculty and students
• academic and social interaction with other highly motivated and successful students
• Citrus College's membership in the UCLA Transfer Alliance Program, which increases the likelihood of a successful transfer application to UCLA.

Through small class sizes and high levels of interaction, the honors transfer program fosters the formation of learning cohorts. Students will typically share multiple classes together which helps form a community of shared learning. Students have commented that real friendships have formed through the honors transfer program and, oftentimes, students will transfer to a four-year institution together, or know former Citrus College honors students who already attend that institution.

You may also join the Beta Nu Eta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, a nationally recognized society for students with a 3.25 GPA and 12 or more units of college credit and/or the Citrus College Iota Chapter of Alpha Gamma Sigma, a California community college honor society for students with a 3.0 GPA and 12 or more units of college credit.

Transfer Benefits

The Citrus College Honors Transfer program has transfer agreements with many local and out of state colleges and universities through its membership in the Honors Transfer Council of California.

Most of these universities offer:

• organized visits to their campuses to prepare you for transfer
• priority processing of admissions applications
• scholarship considerations
• opportunities to attend academic and cultural events at the universities
• use of university libraries
