MY CITRUS STORY- Sharon Lewis
As if they are now, and later they shall be.
Through the years, I have learned that education is not a class, or a school, or a degree, but rather an ongoing process. I started on my own journey long ago, and it eventually took me to not only Citrus College, but also through its antecedent, Citrus Union High School. Looking back, I can see how those wonderful teachers and professors prepared me for life by instilling both an academic and personal self-confidence. They also provided me with a comprehensive process of instruction that helped me advance in my chosen profession, and ultimately contribute to my community in a positive way.
After leaving Citrus, I joined my husband Charles in running the family business, Lewis’ Saw and Lawn Mower, Inc. For more than forty years, we operated in a way that motivated us to give back to the community as we prospered. This desire led us to be active in numerous non-profit organizations which, in time, led us back to Citrus College.
Since 1955, I have been serving as an active member of the Citrus College Alumni Association. During the past fifty-four years, I have had the privilege of playing a role in many important projects and endeavors that have helped make Citrus College an even greater institution. Such endeavors involved a partnership between the Alumni Association and Associated Students of Citrus College which resulted in improved lighting on campus and the installation of a clock atop the Hayden Memorial Library.
Four years ago, I was honored to join the Citrus College Foundation Board, and I also chaired the Citizens’ Oversight Committee for the Measure G Bond fund. These positions provided me with a unique perspective of the leadership and dedication that has helped the college continually grow and improve through the years, making Citrus one of the California’s top community colleges.
I truly believe that Citrus College serves as a unique and effective source of hope for anyone who desires to make a better life.
