MY CITRUS STORY - Linda Hibbs

As if they are now, and later they shall be.

W ay back in the ‘60’s, in fact 1964 (the year of the Beatles), an extremely shy, very intelligent girl graduated at 16 from a local high school. This girl came from an old-fashioned, traditional home. So, all her life, she knew that she would not be able to attend college because her parents had to save and scrimp to send her younger brother to college. The girl accepted her fate but hated the work she was being prepared for – clerical work. One day, close to graduation, some counselors came to the high school from a local college. The nearby school was Citrus College. The girl learned that she could afford to pay for her own tuition and books if she attended this school, since she was working two jobs and making good money. Her  parents were ecstatically happy for her. The girl went to the college, which she liked very much, and graduated with honors within two years.  She then went on to get her B.A. from Cal State University Los Angeles, something she never dreamed she could achieve! Many years later, the woman (no longer a girl and not at all shy!) obtained a M.Ed. in reading because she was and is passionate about literacy. She L-O-V-E-S to read and wants EVERYONE to enjoy it as much as she does! So today, that girl, Linda Louise Hibbs, is back where I started - at my beloved Citrus College - teaching reading and loving every minute.
