    On-Campus Requirements

Please Note: It is required that my DE students take the midterm and final on campus in the Testing Center. This is to ensure the integrity of the exam questions and that the registrants are the individuals taking the tests.

Attention all students attempting to add either of my DE classes: Due to a registration "glitch" some students were added beyond the maximum without my authorization and so I am limiting further adds to five for each. Since I am finishing the fall term by next Friday, you will appreciate the fact that I have over 160 student analyses, research papers to read/grade, and the same number of essay exams during next week's finals week. In other words, I have to take care of them before I can respond to you.

Add authorization codes will be available no earlier than the first day of the Winter and Spring terms; also, note that I will take the five for each chronologically. I really have no other choice.

Last, understand this is a difficult course made more difficult being DE, I give essay-only exams and other written tasks, require an APA style research paper and insist my students understand the material rather than merely learn it. If you are Mature, Independent, Skilled and Timely, you have the opportunity to do well. It not, especially for the six week class, the likelihood of passing is miniscule.

    Take care, please deliberate carefully.

Hello and welcome to Psychology 101! This is an introduction to the theoretical and scientific contributions made - and being made - within the areas of behavior, cognition and emotion (affect).

Your success is dependent on reading comprehension and writing reasonably well, with the objective of understanding the concepts and dynamics of the material. Also, of great importance: you are REQUIRED to think! Since there's not a "multiple choice" bone in my body, you will be taking essay examinations, writing conceptual analyses (to be explained later), and responding to issues/ideas/questions posed at various times throughout our time together. A more informative syllabus will be available on Blackboard.

On a more informal note, while I certainly believe an understanding and appreciation of psychology will enhance virtually all aspects of one's life, it is also exasperating - at times - and often a great deal of fun. I am passionate about my students and my work; ask questions read carefully, don't disappear, and let me know of problems that may arise.

Although this page gives you a we taste of what to expect, the website for the course will not be available until  January 4th, when the semester begins. You will not be allowed to begin assignments before the start of the term.

Please make sure that you appropriately enroll for the course through the Admissions office on campus. Then login on the course website at URL: http://citruscollege.blackboard.com  and provide your name and email address. I cannot reach you unless I have this information. You need to login using your Citrus College student ID#. The default password is citrus. You may change the password once you are registered.

You may email me at: jshannon@citruscollege.edu or you can always call and leave a message at: (626) 914-8524, or visit my office: CI 248 (northwest corner of hallway).

I look forward to the start of the term!

    Jim Shannon
