Business 160

Welcome! You are either enrolled in, or you are interested in possibly enrolling in Business 160. This course is intended to give an overview of the law as it applies to business.

We will spend the first few weeks building a foundation of what the law is, and examining the American legal system and its constitutional authority. The next few weeks will be a brief study of torts and crimes. The remainder of the semester will be devoted to the study of contracts. We will first define contracts under the common law, and then concentrate on contracts for the sale of goods that are governed by the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) and international sales law. 3 units.

Details: Regarding the course are set forth in the class website (see below). When you go there, pay attention to the syllabus section and the assignment section. We will cover the text at the rate of approximately two chapters per week. There are three exams (42%), two papers (28%), and a final exam (20%).

The exams include both multiple-choice questions, true and false, as well as short essay questions. There are also weekly assignments (5%) and quizzes (5%). The assignments and quizzes are developed to help you prepare for the exams and also so you will know the type of questions that will be asked on the exams.

• Update email on WingSpan so it will transfer to Blackboard
• Your WingSpan ID becomes your Blackboard Username
• Your WingSpan PIN number (six digits only) becomes your Blackboard password
• To change these on Blackboard requires you change them on WingSpan
• Data will be transferred from WingSpan to Blackboard on a regular basis

Once you get to the welcome page, click on the Business Law and the Legal Environment I course link on the right, and you will go to the course site. Please be familiarized yourself with the course site and if you have any questions please email your instructor with your concern. Get your textbook and get started with your initial assignments. A major key to your success in this course will be keeping up with both the reading and the other assignments.
