Welcome! You are either enrolled in, or you are interested in enrolling in, the Administration of Justice 131 Distance Education class.
Introduction to Corrections 131 covers the historical development of crime, punishment and incarceration through contemporary penalogical efforts.
The course examines crime and its impact upon the correctional system in prisons, jails, private prisons, and probation/parole processes. Offender profiles and criminal behaviors and examined in males, females, juveniles, and special category offenders. Inmate and ex-offender rights and liabilities are evaluated in terms of constitutional protections, statutory provisions, and administrative regulations.
Course Description: A survey of the field of correctional science. Historical development, current concepts and practice, explanations of criminal behavior; functions, and objectives of the criminal justice system concerned with institutional, probation, and parole processes as they modify the offender's behavior and survey of professional career opportunities in public and private agencies.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course you will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the history and trends of corrections.
- Understand and describe the legal issues, specific laws and general operations of corrections.
- Describe the relationship between corrections and other components of the judicial system will be examined.
- Understand the difference in adult and juvenile corrections, probation and parole.

Familiarize yourself with the course site and if you have any questions please email your instructor with your concerns. Get your textbook and get started with your initial assignments. A major key to your success in this course will be keeping up with both the reading and other assignments.
