How Can I Succeed as an Online Student?
While it may be tempting to think that a distance education course will be an easy way to free up time that a traditional course might require, the fact is distance education courses typically require stronger learning and technical skills and more study time. Some distance education courses have set schedules and require regular participation.

Allocate at least nine to 12 hours per week for any distance education course you plan to take. Use the Schedule Planner to see if you realistically have enough time for taking a distance education course.

A successful online student is:

  • Self-motivated
  • Organized
  • Able to follow written directions and schedules
  • Proactive about contacting their instructors
  • Computer literate
