In accordance with California Vehicle Code section 40215, any person who feels a citation was issued in error may contest the parking citation by filing a citation appeal online at All persons receiving a citation have the right to appeal within twenty-one (21) calendar days from the issuance of a notice of parking citation or fourteen (14) calendar days from sending of a notice of delinquent parking violation (CVC 40215). Appeals which are submitted past the legally allowed twenty-one (21) calendar days after the violation date will not be considered.

Ignoring a citation will result in immediate legal action in the form of the citation being forwarded to a collections agency, subsequently incurring additional penalty fees. Furthermore, per California law, disregarding the citation will result in a “hold” being placed on the vehicle registration with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Vehicle registration will be contingent upon compliance.
