SI Leader Marika Neto and two studentsThe Bridges to Success Title V grant and the Basic Skills Initiative are funding many exciting opportunities for the students at Citrus College, including Supplemental Instruction (SI).

The University of Missouri, Kansas City developed Supplemental Instruction in 1973, and as stated on the UMKC website, "The SI program targets traditionally difficult academic courses and provides regularly scheduled, out-of-class review sessions. The SI study sessions are informal seminars in which students compare notes, discuss readings and develop organizational tools and predict test items."

These sessions are conducted by the SI Leader. The SI Leader is a student who has successfully taken the course and will attend all class sessions; also, the SI Leader will plan and conduct study sessions two or three times a week, directly before or after the class.

The success rate for students who participate in SI is markedly higher than those who do not participate.

Supplemental Instruction offers a remarkable opportunity to:

  • have a better understanding of the course material
  • use your study time effectively
  • study in a friendly environment
