    Corner Is Difference Maker

    Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Glendora, CA (Women’s Soccer) -- There wasn’t a whole lot separating the Citrus College Women’s Soccer team from Glendale College on Tuesday evening. Both teams took 11 shots, and both teams fired off five shots on goal. Besides the final score corner kicks would prove to be the lone difference as Citrus earned three corners to Glendale’s one. One of those corners would prove to be the distinction as Citrus got a 1-0 victory.

In the first half both teams traded the ball in the midfield. Both teams got of four shots each, but nothing came of any shot for either team. In the second that would change for Citrus as they earned a corner in the 59th minute. Freshman Linda Kommel would line up the kick and send it towards the box where Lauren Reyes was ready and waiting, scoring her first goal of the season.

Both teams would continue to trade attempts from there on out, but Citrus goal keeper Laura Guzman recorded five saves and got her third shut-out of the season.

With the win, Citrus improves to 4-9-3 overall and 2-6-1 in WSC South play, while Glendale falls to 4-7-4 overall and 2-5-2 in conference games. With the conclusion on Tuesday’s game, comes the end of Citrus’ three game home stand. The Lady Owls will hit the road for their next two games, starting with Friday’s game at South #3 LA Pierce. Game time is set for 4:00 PM.
