Glendora, CA (Volleyball) -- Needing a win to propel them to a strong finish in the second half of conference play, the Citrus College Volleyball team struggled on Tuesday night getting swept by LA Pierce 20-25, 14-25, and 23-25. The Lady Owls committed a season high seven reception errors, and never really contended in the three set sweep.
The Lady Owls started off promisingly enough getting out to an early 11-7 lead after a service ace from sophomore Cedestoni Salzar. After that though things went South as Pierce scored six straight points to take their first lead of the night at 13-11 after an attack error by Citrus freshman Brittney Crusberg. After that it was all Pierce as rolled to a 25-20 victory in the first set.
In the second, Citrus kept it close for the first third of the set, even taking an 9-8 lead after an attack error on the Brahma’s. Pierce turned it on again after that scoring 17 of the next 22 points to take a 25-14 victory. It was much of the same story in the third. After the Lady Owls tied the game up at 6-6 after an unforced error by Pierce, the Brahma’s went on a 19-7 run to close out the set and the match.
In the loss, Citrus was led by Lindsey Mitchell who recorded a game high 11 kills. With the loss, Citrus falls to 4-10 overall and 2-4 in WSC South play, while Pierce improves to 7-12 overall and 4-4 in conference play. The Lady Owls will try and back from Tuesday’s disappointing showing with another home game on Friday evening. Citrus will play host to Santa Monica, with the match set for a 7:00 PM start.
