    A Game of Inches

    Friday, November 06, 2009

Glendora, CA (Volleyball) -- It's been said of baseball and football that they are games of inches. That adage could also be applied to volleyball. The best example of that was in Citrus’ three set loss to Bakersfield on Friday night. All it was, was a few inches that separated Citrus from possibly upsetting the first place team in conference, instead the inches led to a wide chasm as the Lady Owls were swept in straight sets.

The Lady Owls led the 14th ranked team in the State 24-22 in the first set, but Bakersfield rallied to score the final four points of the first game, taking all of Citrus’ momentum and really the air out of the gymnasium. After that all things went downhill for Citrus as they barely mustered a fight in a 25-15 second set loss.

Citrus would rebound shortly in the third set even briefly leading the Renegades 7-5 after a Brittney Crusberg kill. Bakersfield would be just too much for Citrus to handle though as the Renegades went on to take the third frame 25-17.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 5-11 overall and 3-5 in conference play, while Bakersfield improves to 15-4 overall and a perfect 9-0 in WSC play. Citrus will hit the road on Tuesday for their first road contest in almost two weeks. The Lady Owls will take on West LA College with a 7:00 PM start time.
